Winner!
Hands on Oxfordshire's Heritage Project!

08/05/2010

It's always good to receive positive feedback after a workshop is complete, it show's that Workshop Network and the artists we represent are doing a good job.

When that feedback comes in the form of a fifteen page full colour booklet with comments from the participants, workshop leader, and the organiser of the project for Oxfordshire County Council plus a complete analysis of the project and in fact an entire section dedicated to the benefits for the participants!

Well it's hard to know where to start!

The aim of the project itself was to work with a group of senior participants, drawing on artefacts from the past to recollect memories and stories. These were then used as inspiration for a 3D textile wall hanging created by the participants at Abingdon Wellbeing Centre and brought together by Workshop Network textile practitioner Lucy McLoughlin.

As there's not enough room to do the report justice on this page we've added a couple of quotes from the report below, seems like a great project, well delivered and most importantly beneficial in a number of ways for the participants.

Mary Southey, a participant.
"I really enjoyed it and it was nice change and pleasant group to work with...it brings you closer together to do something together"

Lillian Barry, participant aged 92.
"I enjoyed memories of the past, meeting people and the help I got from the organisers. I hope the meetings will continue in the future"

Gill Munday, project organiser for O.C.C, states as part of her conclusion in the report.

"Several participants expressed the wish that similar activities could be done in the future. The completion of the wall hanging which can be admired by participants and their friends and families, as well as other visitors to the centre, is a tangible end result to an enjoyable project"
