Cultural Diversity Project with Tamworth Borough Council Feedback...
15/06/2010
"In the Spring Term 2010, eleven schools from Tamworth took part in Cultural experiences day to support the work they were undertaking about the world around them. Each school was offered three full day of practitioner time covering a range of different cultures and activities from around the world. Each school felt it had a positive experience on the children and are keen to develop learning using arts as a tool.

Amington Heath I have attached feedback for the African Drummer and the Classical Indian Dance workshops. The children really enjoyed the experiences as you will see when you read some of the selected comments on the feedback sheets. The staff were most impressed with the Indian dance. The teacher was fantastic and every child in the school from Reception to Yr6 joined in with enthusiasm, as did all of the staff! This has been a most successful experience, and I hope that there will be more opportunities like this
St. Gabriel’s Primary School
I am the teacher responsible for creativity and RE at St. Gabriel's so diversity and community cohesion comes under my remit too! I just want to say a really big thank you for the diversity workshops we have received over the last three weeks. The children and staff have thoroughly enjoyed them and are begging me to get them back again! All of the teachers/facilitators were so accommodating and kind and they all had a great rapport with the children right from the start of the session. Thank you so much for organising the workshops and the funding! We wouldn't have been able to afford them on our own and we really appreciate it.
Thanks also for letting us have so many. All of our 350 children were able to take part in at least one workshop. The children's favourite was James with his Taiko drums. They are already used to me with my African drums every Friday lunchtime so they felt they knew how to take part in a drumming workshop! However, they also loved Asma's Art, Cecilia with her Hurdy Gurdy and Helen with her drama workshop.
They have all contributed to our work on community cohesion at the moment and have been really helpful as Tamworth is not as culturally diverse as some other places I have worked. It's great for the children to meet people from cultures other than their own and so much more memorable when they can meet real people rather than just use DVD's and other media. In addition, the workshops have contributed towards our Arts targets for partnerships and visiting artists. As you may know, we are an Artsmark Gold school and try to give our children quality experiences in the Arts on a regular basis so it was wonderful to be able to combine community cohesion/diversity with the Arts. Woodlands Primary School
We have just enjoyed the third and final “Diversity Day” at the Woodlands Primary School. All three workshops have gone down a treat and every child in the school has experienced something “different!” The evaluation forms have been given out to the class teachers, so you’ll be receiving those shortly, but I just wanted to thank you for all your hard work in getting everything organised and let you know how much everyone here at Woodlands really appreciated the work done in our three chosen workshops. Of course, we’d all like more in the future!
