African dance
Learn dances from Africa including Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Guinea-Conakry, Mali and South Africa. All workshops are delivered by a highly experience teacher with over 15 years experience. That experience includes teaching GCSE dance, A level dance, BTEC performing arts, and the Creative & Media diploma. Workshops are delivered across the age and ability range.
Workshops include;
• The historical and cultural context of African dances • Teaching of choreographic skills so participants can create their own work ‘in the style of’. • Teaching of performance skills • Teaching of appreciation skills • Links with National Curriculum subjects and aims • Delivery of INSET
Other dance styles taught;
• Jazz dance • Contemporary dance • Body percussion (Gumboot, Stepping, Stomp)

• Dance teacher (all styles) at Hyperfusion Theatre Company • Kensington & Chelsea College – Adult Community Learning courses (African dance), BTEC Performing Arts (Jazz, African dance), Creative & Media diploma (Jazz dance), Jazz summer school • The Urban Dance Platform – 5 week course in body percussion for children • East London dance – 10 week course in traditional jazz dance for adults • King’s Hawford School – African dance residency for KS1 & 2 • Rickmansworth School – KS3, GCSE, A level • Copthall School – KS3, GCSE, A level • Haringey Youth Services – African dance principles in order to improve confidence and self-esteem for teenage girls • University of Bedfordshire – INSET for Bedfordshire teachers, Topic: Introducing African dance to primary and secondary school children. • Finchley Youth Theatre – Creative dance for young people with and without SEN
